But the Rangers aren't willing to wait any longer. Texas has told agent Jeff Moorad that they want an answer to their two-year, $20 million offer by the close of business Tuesday. After Gonzalez was reportedly ready to make a decision Monday, that day came and went, and the Mets grew increasingly pessimistic about their chances of signing Gonzalez, according to a New York Times report. One Mets official told the paper, "Our gut feeling is that he wants to sign with Texas now." The Mets had offered him a two-year deal worth $26 million with a third season possible if he meets appearance requirements. But Gonzalez said that if the Rangers come close, they would beat out the Mets because of the absence of a state income tax in Texas. A team source told the Daily News that if the Mets don't get an answer Monday, they'll withdraw their offer and move on to make a trade for Padres' outfielder Bubba Trammell instead. |

Apparently what I understand is that it comes down to this...If Gonzo only cares about the mula, then he's going to Texas...If he cares about winning, then he's going to the METS...hopefully he'll be a Metropolitan...
Oh by the way, here's to hoping that Gary Carter makes his way into the Hall of Fame...

He definitely cares about the Moolah (and Mae Young)... But as outlined in another Daily News article, he can make more money outside of his contract here than he can in Texas. That's the beauty of playing for a big market team.
